AT&T Sued Over Racist Meme ... Culture of Racism

AT&T Sued Over Racist Meme ... Culture of Racism | TMZ.com:

A former AT&T employee has filed a racial lawsuit against a key player in the pending merger between AT&T and DirecTV.
Aaron Slator, President of Content and Ad Sales for AT&T, as well as the head of U-verse, is being sued by a former 30 year employee of his company ... claiming he has it out for African Americans and is using an alleged text message to prove it.
0427-subasset-att-uverse-021
Knoyme King claims she worked under Slator as Content Coordinator. She claims Slator's former assistant was transferring data from his old cellphone to a new one when she came across a text to one of Slator's friends that allegedly had a picture of an African child with the caption, "It's Friday N****s." Slator allegedly sent it to a friend with the message, "Oldie but goodie."
King, who is African American, claims in her lawsuit AT&T knew about the incident but never reprimanded Slator. King also says Slator went on a harassment campaign against her because she was close to the person who discovered the text.
King also claims the culture of the entire company held her back for decades, and she was repeatedly passed over for promotions in favor of less qualified non-African Americans.
She's suing for $100 million, claiming racial discrimination.
AT&T was sued recently for allegedly discriminating against African American run media companies. One of the driving forces behind that suit is Byron Allen, who produces a slew of programming for the African American community. The suit seeks $10 billion in damages.
As for King's lawsuit ... an AT&T spokesperson says the images "are offensive to everyone at AT&T" ... and the company doesn't "tolerate discrimination of any type by any employee." The spokesperson added that ... as with all cases when "an employee is accused of discrimination of any sort, we conduct a thorough investigation and take disciplinary action as appropriate."

Seattle Police Arrest 70 year old William Wingate (interaction starts at 1:44)

An elderly black man arrested last summer while walking  down a Seattle street with a golf club has sued the city and the officer who took him into custody, claiming the incident was racially motivated, his attorney said on Tuesday.
William Wingate, 70, is seeking about $750,000 in damages for racial discrimination, violation of his civil rights and “substantial humiliation, mental and emotional distress,” stemming from his July 2014 arrest by a white police officer, according to the complaint.
The lawsuit says Seattle officer Cynthia Whitlatch targeted Wingate because of his race and lied about the circumstances of his arrest, including an allegation he swung the golf club at her.
All charges against Wingate were dropped shortly after his arrest, and the incident was captured on police dash-cam video.
“He was arrested for walking down the street while black,” said Wingate’s attorney, Susan Mindenbergs. “People like Mr. Wingate have to stand up and say ‘this is going to stop.'”
The lawsuit comes as violent protests have erupted in Baltimore over the death this month of a black man after being arrested by local police.
The death of Freddie Gray was the latest in a string of incidents in which unarmed black men were killed by white police officers, sparking a national debate about use of force and the treatment of minorities by law enforcement.
Around 8 percent of the Seattle population is black, compared to 63 percent of Baltimore, according to the U.S. Census.
Wingate, a military veteran who requires a cane to walk, was using the golf club as a crutch, according to court papers.
In January, the Seattle Police Department, which is under federal monitoring for excessive force, issued an apology to Wingate and returned his confiscated golf club.
The department also released video of his arrest, in which Wingate can be seen standing on a sidewalk, casually leaning on the club before the officer approaches and yells at him to drop his weapon. He refused for several minutes before he was arrested.
Nowhere in the roughly seven-minute clip can he be seen swinging the club.
A spokeswoman for the Seattle City Attorney’s office, which will handle defense for the city, said the office did not comment on pending litigation.

House Votes To Repeal Tax On Richest 0.2 Percent Of Americans

House Votes To Repeal Tax On Richest 0.2 Percent Of Americans:

WASHINGTON -- The House of Representatives voted Thursday to give a tax break worth $269 billion to the richest few thousand estates in the country, and add that cost to the federal debt.

Called the Death Tax Repeal Act of 2015, the bill would end the nearly 100-year-old federal estate tax. All but three Republicans voted in favor, while all but seven Democrats voted against. The legislation passed 239 to 179.

The measure benefits only the top .2 percent of the population because the other 99.8 percent of the country doesn't own enough wealth to ever pay the tax. Only estates worth more than $10.9 million for couples and $5.4 million for individuals fall under the tax........
