A Baltimore police officer who was caught on surveillance video beating a man by repeatedly punching him in the face pleaded guilty to second-degree assault today, receiving a five year prison sentence. However, the judge suspended all but six months of the sentence. But who would ever think a cop would spend a single day behind bars? Certainly not Vincent Cosom, who claimed in his police report that he was only defending himself against Kollin Truss who struck him in the body. However, the video shows Truss was trying to walk away from him and never once struck him.

According to the Baltimore Sun, correction officers Tamika Cobb and Kendra Richard were suspended without pay after footage showed them exiting a local convenience store holding Slim Jims and Tostitos chips on April 25.

Salahudeen Abdul-Aziz said that in 2009 he was severely beaten by police just a few blocks from where Gray was arrested.

Records obtained by CBS News show that nearly 700 detainees with visible injuries were taken to the hospital only after they were turned away by central booking. As Chip Reid reports, the treatment of detainees by Baltimore's police officers has long been criticized.
